Entry to nursery is the next stage in your child’s development. They have already learned lots about their world; learned behaviours: made friends etc. They now become part of the school community which is quite different from being part of a small family unit.
The Aims of our Nursery
We aim to:
- Promote independence by offering children the freedom and flexibility to take responsibility and make choices.
- Nurture an enthusiasm and positive attitude to lifelong learning.
- To develop children’s value and understanding of themselves and others.
- To enable children to acquire and build on knowledge, skills and attitudes in a planned learning environment.
What will my child be doing at Nursery?
The Curriculum for Excellence aims to ensure that all the children develop into:
- Successful learners
- Confident individuals
- Responsible citizens
- Effective contributors
Nursery education is about focussing on the development of the individual child and during your child’s time in nursery he/she will experience a great variety of activities in line with the fulfilment of the Curriculum for Excellence. Play is natural to the children and is the way in which they learn using all of their senses. Through play the children learn new skills, develop their interests and new interests, encounter new experiences and build on previous knowledge. In nursery we aim to provide a secure, caring, happy and structured environment where the children learn through meaningful play where staff build on the children’s skills, knowledge and attitudes. Nursery staff carefully observe and assess the needs of all children in order to plan appropriate learning experiences for them.
